The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) science program consultants invite you to participate in a virtual webinar showcasing an exciting new resource: The Kentucky Atlas of Phenomena (KAP). This resource was designed by Kentucky educators for Kentucky educators to support the implementation of the Kentucky Academic Standards for Science by deepening their understanding of local natural phenomena common to Kentucky and the disciplinary core ideas (DCIs) needed to explain them.
What to Expect:
This engaging webinar offers an excellent opportunity for district leaders, school leaders, and science educators across Kentucky to collaborate as learners and practitioners. Together, participants will:
- Explore the value of using locally relevant phenomena in science instruction;
- Consider how to localize phenomena within high-quality instructional resources;
- Examine phenomena that connect to Kentucky’s communities; and
- Build a phenomenon bundle to include on the website.

Complete the Interactive Virtual Webinar: Introducing The Kentucky Atlas of Phenomena registration form by Feb. 27 to secure your place. Depending on district policies and if approved at the local level, participants may receive 1.5 hours of professional development credit for their participation in the workshop and will receive a certificate from KDE upon completion. Please work with your district or principal to determine if these hours are eligible.
