Vibrant science classrooms are not accidental, but are intentionally designed. Vibrant science learning involves students making sense of meaningful phenomena and collaborating with evidence. This instruction is tightly aligned to the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Science, positioning students as thinkers and problem solvers.
The Vibrant Learning Through the Four Instructional Shifts Module helps educators connect the vision of the KAS for Science to daily classroom practice in clear and sustainable ways. This module clarifies how the instructional shifts shape student-centered learning, why they matter for all students and how they move classrooms from coverage to coherence.
Participants will examine how the shifts are reflected in the four Kentucky Department of Education markers of High-Quality Instructional Resources (HQIRs) and the Instructional Practice Guide (IPG) for science, strengthening alignment across standards, resources and instruction. Educators will also identify how the shifts impact their local contexts and plan practical next steps for classrooms, schools or coaching work.
Designed for teachers, instructional coaches and school or district leaders committed to rigorous and coherent science instruction, this professional learning experience turns vision into action. All materials are available on the Science Professional Learning Modules webpage. Questions may be submitted to kdescience@education.ky.gov.
