With the current school year wrapping up, it is time to begin thinking about planning learning experiences for the 2026-2027 school year. Whether you are a new or experienced teacher, the Social Studies Student Assignment Library provides examples of student assignments that are weakly, partially and strongly aligned to the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Social Studies. Strongly aligned assignments are provided for each grade, kindergarten through Grade 8 and high school. Additionally, Teacher Notes, which are also available for kindergarten through high school, support educators in implementing assignments by providing guidance on how to scaffold student understanding of the inquiry practices and the disciplinary strands referenced in the KAS for Social Studies.

What to Discover:

  • Student assignments examples for each grade level which are strongly aligned to the KAS for Social Studies.
  • Teacher notes which offer guidance to teachers to support effective implementation of each assignment.
  • Examples of compelling and supporting questions to support the Questioning inquiry practice.
  • Inclusion of strategies to help teachers facilitate both the Investigation and Using Evidence inquiry practices.
  • Links to sources to support students in developing and strengthening evidence-based claims.
  • Sample tasks and assignments that demonstrate how students may communicate their learning by constructing explanations, building arguments and engaging in civil discourse.
  • Grade-level examples illustrate how disciplinary content and inquiry practices can be meaningfully integrated within a learning experience.
